Swans Falls Open House. Swans Falls Campground and Outdoor Education is having an open house event on Fourth of July weeken,d co-hosted by the national Leave No Trace organization and the Saco River Recreational Council. Ossipee Independence Day Fair and Community Fair. Part of Ossipee Old Home Week celebrations, the Ossipee Independence Day Fair and Community Fair are held today in Center Ossipee. The parade begins at 10 a.m. and the community fair takes place at Ossipee Concerned Citizens following the parade and ending at 2 p.m. There will be a giant yard sale, as well as pony rides, music, children's games, horseshoe pitching, hamburgers and hot dogs from the new food shack, entry awards, and the citizen of the year award.
Gibson Center Fourth of July Craft Fair. The Gibson Center 2009 craft fair will be open July 4 and 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and July 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The thrift shop will also be open. There will be items such as fine jewelry, photography, leather bags, art, pottery, gourmet specialty foods, baked goods, stained glass, doll clothes, kettle corn, clothing, Adirondack chairs from R&R woodworkers, and much more. The fair is to benefit the Gibson Center for Senior Services Meals on Wheels program. There are a few spots left for crafters. If interested call Karen James at 356-3231.
Conway Fourth of July Family Celebration. The celebration starts with a parade in Conway village at 2 p.m. Then join North Conway Firefighters for the annual Fourth of July family celebration from 2 to 6 p.m. in Schouler Park There will be a petting zoo with baby pigs, goats, cows and a pot-bellied pig, Sherman Farm's cow train rides, kettle corn, ice cream and T-shirts. Free admission. Also in Schouler Park: 4:45 to 5:30 p.m., Tina Titzer's Act I Dance Academy; 5:45 to 6:15, the Kennett High School Drumline; 6:30 to 7 p.m., Mount Washington Valley Theater Company will give a sampling of this summer's performances, starting with "High School Musical." and 7:15 to 9:20 p.m., The Discount Gigolos, from Salem, performs a wide range of music from different eras. Fireworks after dark, at about 9:30 p.m.
Performance Of New Opera: A Crime of Righteousness. A workshop performance of "A Crime of Righteousness," a new opera about John Brown written by Mountain Top Music's music director, Ellen Schwindt, will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Salyards Center for the Arts in Conway Village. From Route 16 in Albany turn onto Drake Hill Road at the World Fellowship sign and take the first right, just after the bridge; Whitman Hall is immediately on the left. Admission is $10, and $5 for students and seniors.

Republican Fundraiser Breakfast. It’s time again for the Winnipesaukee Republican Committee’s annual July Fourth breakfast at the Wolfeboro Inn. The committee is comprised of citizens from the towns of Wolfeboro, Tuftonboro and Moultonborough. The Wolfeboro Inn is located on 90 North Main Street in Wolfeboro. Breakfast and coffee will be served buffet-style from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. A 50/50 raffle will be held to raise additional funds for the committee, and state Senator Jeb Bradley will be a guest speaker. As it has in the past, the committee is hopes to attract an attendance from all over the Lakes Region, according to State Representative and committee chair, Chris Ahlgren. Constitutiion Park is located at Route 25 and Long Sands Road, in Center Ossipee. A wide variety of foods will be available from many non-profit organizations that benefit the Town of Ossipee. Leave No Trace Workshops Representatives At Swan's Falls Campground. Swan's Falls Campground and Outdoor Education Facility in Fryeburg, Maine will be hosting national representatives from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics. Coordinators will provide education and outreach at Swan's Falls landing and on the Saco River all weekend. Fourth of July in Bartlett. Bartlett’s annual Hellen Hayes Memorial Fourth of July Parade is scheduled for at 11 a.m. on Main Street in Bartlett village (rain date Sunday, July 5). Monetary prizes ranging from $15 to $150 will be awarded in the float division. Registration will begin the morning of the parade at 9:30 a.m. in Precinct Park. The awards will be announced at 11:45 a.m. in Hodgkins Park followed by a barbecue and musical entertainment provided by Homemade Jam. The Union Congregational Church will be selling strawberry shortcake. The Friends of the Bartlett Public Library are again conducting a book and bake sale July 4 on the front lawn of the Josiah Bartlett School. Fourth of July Picnic. Eaton's annual Fourth of July celebration is at Crystal Lake in Eaton. The celebration starts at noon. There will be a 50/50 raffle and many treats provided by residents. Bring your beverage of choice.
Fryeburg Fourth of July Celebration. Fryeburg holds a children's parade at 10 a.m.. Children are invited to walk or ride bikes or scooters, and infants can be pushed in strollers by their parents. Decorate your wheels or yourself in Fourth of July style and meet at the Fryeburg Academy at 9:30 a.m. The parade will start at the academy promptly at 10 a.m. and marchers will continue along Main Street to Bradley Memorial Park. Following the parade, there will be music and food at the park. Kids can enjoy the bouncy house, play with circus toys, get their faces painted and enter to win a free bicycle. John Tercyak will entertain all in the Bradley Park gazebo with guitar, fiddle and vocals. Family Day in Tamworth. Family Day in Tamworth starts with a 5-kilometer race beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Ordination Rock. World Premiere Of 'A Crime of Righteousness'. The world premiere of "A Crime of Righteousness," a new opera about John Brown written by Mountain Top Music's music director, Ellen Schwindt, will open at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, at the Leura Hill Eastman Center for the Performing Arts at Fryeburg Academy, in Fryeburg, Maine. Around the World Photographic Tour. Photojournalist José Azel will show pictures he’s taken from around the world while on assignment for the National Geographic Society at the Leura Hill Eastman Performing Arts Center at Fryeburg Academy at 7 p.m. Azel has generously donated a 1991 framed picture to be raffled off. Tree Identification Walk . Join conservation biologist and educator Bridie McGreavy for a tree identification walk at 9 a.m. Pondicherry Park in Bridgton. McGreavy will provide participants with tools for identifying common Maine trees by branching pattern, leaf shape and bark characteristics. This walk will cover easy to moderately sloped terrain over forest trails and boardwalks for approximately two miles in two hours. Comfortable walking shoes, water, a snack, and clothing appropriate for the season are recommended. The suggested donation for this program is $5; Lakes Environmental Association members attend free of charge. American Red Cross Babysitting Course. Huggins Hospital will offer the American Red Cross Babysitting course, designed for ages 11 to 15. 16th Annual Strawberry Breakfast. Bridgton’s First Congregational Church will hold its 16th annual strawberry breakfast on Saturday, July 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the church’s Fellowship Hall. The menu includes pancakes, French toast, biscuits, cereal and ice cream, all topped with freshly-picked local strawberries. Seating is available in the refurbished Fellowship Hall as well as under a tent outside. Church members of all ages will be cooking and serving the food at this favorite community event. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $8 for adults, $3 for youth ages five to 10 and $2 for those four and under. The church is located at 33 South High Street in Bridgton. Fish Auction. Gallery 302 will host its sixth birthday celebration reception where the 40 wooden fish, painted by local artists, will be auctioned off by "live" auction from 5 to 7 p.m. Come to the ‘fishery’at Gallery 302 and place your hook into one of these very artistic aquatics. The Bridgton Art Guild is a non profit community organization of which Gallery 302 is affiliated. Gallery 302 of the Bridgton Art Guild in Bridgton, Maine distributed the "naked" wooden fish [bass, actually] to 40 local artists in November 2008. The fish measure 20 inches long by five inches tall and three inches thick. The artists volunteered to work over the winter to turn their fish into artistic creations. Albany Town Potluck Picnic. All Albany residents (fulltime and seasonal) are invited to the second annual Albany Town Potluck Picnic coordinated by Albany Citizens Coming Together.
